AN ANCIENT STORY TAKES FLIGHT AT ULURU IN MAY, 2023
In February 2023, we announced that a breathtaking, fully-immersive light and sound show was launching at Ayers Rock Resort. Called Wintjiri Wiru, which suggests a 'beautiful view out to the horizon' in local Pitjantjatjara language, this is the first time a light, laser, projection and drone experience of this magnitude has been performed on a regular basis anywhere in the world.
ENJOY NATIVE AUSTRALIAN PRODUCE
Native Australian produce and Indigenous bush foods will be the heroes of the culinary experience of Wintjiri Wiru, the new drone, sound and laser light show at Ayers Rock Resort.
From lemon aspen and wattleseeds to quandong, warrigal greens and lemon myrtle, the menu for Wintjiri Wiru is an authentic celebration of native Australian ingredients combined with modern culinary techniques that match the exciting drama of the new experience.
Cutting-edge drone technology tells ancient Indigenous story
Three years in the making and with a multi-million-dollar investment, ancient Indigenous storytelling has been brought to life using state-of-the-art technology at Wintjiri Wiru, the world’s largest ongoing drone display.
With two shows per night, more than 1,100 drones will take to the skies over the Red Centre to depict a chapter of the ancient Mala story from Kaltukatjara to Uluru. It’s the first time an Indigenous story is being told through the medium of lights, lasers, and projections at such a large scale, and performed on a regular basis anywhere in the world.
Wintjiri Wiru working group
Wintjiri Wiru has been created in partnership with senior Anangu from Kaltukatjara and Mutitjulu. We are grateful for the contribution of the following Wintjiri Wiru Working Group Members who have been there every step of the way, guiding Ayers Rock Resort.
Wintjiri Wiru Shines Bright at Brolga Awards
Wintjiri Wiru emerged as the standout performer at the 36th Brolga Northern Territory Tourism Awards, winning Best Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Tourism Experience as well as being crowned the Chair's Choice for Tourism Excellence.
